Episode 503: Woke Disney, Teens in Crisis, & Racial Reconciliation with Derwin Gray

The feud between Florida’s governor and Disney is getting hotter with new leaked footage of a Disney executive speaking about the company’s goals for LGBTQ representation. What are both the Right and Left getting wrong in the debate, and why should we see sexual orientation and gender identity as different from race?

Also, new studies show an alarming rise in mental health disorders among teens, but there’s some good news for those involved in religious communities. Plus, Derwin Gray is back to talk about his new book, “How to Heal our Racial Divide.” He shares how his church is taking the call for racial reconciliation “from the seats to the streets,” and why so many church leaders remain afraid to talk about race.

I see that Skye's thoughts on this one rubbed some people the wrong way and I'm sure he knew that they would. I wanted to make sure I listened to this one since I strongly believe that the gender and race issues are very different and shouldn't be coupled or oversimplified, as Skye argues. I keep seeing memes saying that if a book can influence your child's gender identity then why aren't I a very hungry caterpillar? It just seems so oversimplified and off to me.

First of all, I agree with everyone who says that the main problem is that everyone has not been loved as they should be, but many experiencing gender confusion, etc. received hate and rejection.…

Well, I was pretty much in agreement with what one YouTube commenter, Jon Hilderbrand, wrote in his long—look who’s talking—and interesting comment about this episode of the Holy Post podcast *until* he reaches his point about “sexual indoctrination.”

I think if he—or whoever chooses to read what I write here—would just change every instance of “gay” to “straight,” and vice versa, it should be clear why JH’s argument fails to hold up.

I was someone who was not *only* “constantly bombarded with” affirmations that ‘straight is okay,’ but it was *also* made very clear to me—whether from secular society (as it existed in the 1960s and’70s) *OR* from what *still* seems to be Christianity’s most common interpretation of…

Thank you for discussing the mental health crisis that is affecting our youth. I am concerned with some of Skye’s comments about social media and connection with church community. My child does not and has never had social media and has a strong and vibrant church community and walk with the Lord. Nevertheless my child has been struggling with mental illness. Mental illness is extremely complex, just as you pointed out with the LGBTQ+ issue, there are genetics and congenital issues and there are also life experience and environmental factors. For my child, tests have so far pinpointed an actual genetic mutation that points to an intolerance to stress and often contributes to alcoholism or drug addiction. In addition we…

Bit late to this (tsk). However, as it turns out, I was moved to buy some cinnamon rolls yesterday. (I blame Jason.) I have not had them before. :-)

The discussion on Disney and LGBTQ representation felt off to me. After listening the 2nd time, I think I sort of understand where Skye is coming from. I’m going to speak from the perspective of a parent and old person who is bemused to find herself in completely new territory in regards to all the new ways of thinking about gender and sexuality! So please take my humble opinion as one given with no ill-intentions if I happen to offend in my ignorance.

Firstly, I think the discussion of this in the context of the Disney debacle is not quite where it belongs because I don’t think Disney is doing anything at all controversial. Fifty percent representation for MINORITIES an…
