Our society is more diverse than ever before yet ninety percent of churches in the U.S. remain mono-cultural. Derwin Gray says this isn’t just a problem for the mission of the church, it’s also a betrayal of the gospel itself. He talks with Skye about why he planted a multiethnic church, why so many church leaders resist this calling, and how a fundamental misunderstanding of the gospel is to blame.
Also this week, the military has admitted that UFOs are real but doesn’t say if they’re extraterrestrial. If there are aliens, what are the implications for Christian theology? Plus, a new study finds that in countries where Christianity enjoys political power more people abandon the faith. So why do evangelicals want to take back Washington? And Phil wonders if psychedelic cicadas prove the existence of God.
Hey Holy Post, love the podcast, and this episode is excellent, especially the interview with Derwin Gray. He's fantastic!
But I'm afraid I've got to pop Skye's bubble a little bit here... we actually do know what all the objects in those declassified UFO videos are:
GoFast - A bird flying over the ocean (really!)
The Tictac (FLIR) - A normal plane (shot in infrared at a distance)
Gimbal - Space junk (or rocket booster) reentering the atmosphere (or another plane)
Pyramids - Commercial airplanes out of focus shot with a camera with a triangular aperture
Ocean UFO - A plane flying over the horizon (in infrared)
I won't post links since I'm not sure if that's copacetic on this…
So I really wish there was more discussion on HOW to achieve a multiethnic church. One approach I've thought about for a while is to hold semi-regular joint services between white and black churches. In other words, "sister" churches. I'm sure that this approach isn't exactly the multiethnic solution that Pastor Gray envisions, but it might be a step forward.
The only place I ever hear people talk about Larry Norman, Randy Stonehill, Steve Taylor, and Keith Green is on the Holy Post. I think I'm one of the few millennials on the younger side that still listens to and knows who those guys are haha
Hey guys, I have a recommendation for a guest on The Holy Post, I think since you usually have someone pretty moderate, to show that we can still love others who completely disagree with us, you should have Eric Metaxas or Ben Shapiro on the show. Or maybe Nancy Pelosi.
Mr. Phil being neutral again with Darwin vs. God. Was that a coincidence?
