The exit poll data from the election is in, and it looks like white evangelicals are as politically conservative and Republican as ever. Professor of political science from Eastern Illinois University, Ryan Burge, joins the Holy Post crew to discuss the findings.
He says Democrats should give up on white evangelical voters who are now more Republican than Christian. Burge also looks at the formative power of cable news, why pastors are afraid to address the idolatry of politics in their pews, and why the data says the future of evangelicalism will be dramatically different. Also this week, Drew Dyck is back with his latest book selections to survive the pandemic. Plus, Tesla owners beware—you could accidentally butt dial a very expensive upgrade for your car.

great podcast..... I did have a thought. I wonder if the person from Ryan's church who asked for prayers for a drug addiction and had all the elderly laying on hands for him.... I wonder if they would have been as enthusiastic if that person was black, and one of few blacks at his church. Just a thought....
That was a great episode! I'm currently listening through it a 2nd time to ensure I truly digest all the great statistics and concepts that Mr. Burge shared. And I feel like there's an uncomfortable chicken-and-egg question that needs to be asked: did Christians become more like the Republican party over time, or did the Republican party actually morph over time to match what Christians were asking/looking for in a political party & its candidates? And, if the latter: is Pres. Trump more the culmination (rather than the antithesis) of that white evangelical list of "must-haves" than we as white Christians would like to admit?
@ annette - this comment made me smile :)
Phil, you made me snort-laugh when you said a fountain-view room might not be so great if you have to go to the bathroom. I think you might be one of Jesus's favorites. Then when Skye said that he thinks his butt has been a net-positive...my cup runneth over with fiendish delight about the people who are just now finding the podcast after watching one of your thoughtful and intelligent videos about racism, abortion, and voting. They're going to quickly discover that there are many, many facets to the Holy Post diamond.
