627: Heritage Americans & Palestinian Christians with Munther Isaac

Following the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, some are saying that God saved his life for a divine purpose. Phil, Kaitlyn, and Skye discuss the selective use of Christian rhetoric surrounding the former President. Then, multiple speakers at the Republican convention used anti-immigrant language associated with the “heritage Americans” movement. We examine the movement and its link to the isolationist and racist policies of the 1920s. And Skye welcome Rev. Dr. Munther Isaac, the pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem, to talk about the Palestinian Christian community in the Holy Land and the impact of the war in Gaza on the church.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your interview with Dr. Munther Isaac! It's about time American Evangelicals wake up to the destructive power their leaders wield when it comes to supporting the apartheid government of Israel. I would love to hear Skye and David French discuss this topic again in light of Skye's interview. As much as I highly respect David, I found him to be way off-base on his full-on support of the Israeli government.

This was a soul-stirring edition of the podcast. A few weeks ago, I heard David French on your podcast complain about the "rank antisemitism in the United Nations". Criticism and censure of the state of Israel when they break international law does not equate to antisemitism. I respect David French but this was uncharacteristic gaslighting by him and he ought to know better. Great to see that you are willing to hear from actual Palestinian voices about the suffering and apartheid they continue to suffer.

The tide is turning and the meek will inherit the land.

Listening to Dr Munther hurt my heart knowing how I have stereotyped the Palestinian people so much in the past. Time to rethink and repray on all this

Wouldn't it be wild if Kamala Harris selected a centrist like Paul Ryan, who left the House because of Trump, as her VP?? Talk about uniting the country!

I am glad you brought Dr. Isaac on to give account of the Palestinian Christian plight. However, you have yet to denounce David French's terrible take that most people who oppose Israel are antisemitic. This is a good balance, but it lacks the conviction to call out your own people who hold to bad ideas.
