Christians in Germany are using ChatGPT to create liturgies and even preach sermons. Is the rise of AI different from previous technologies, and how should the church respond? Meanwhile, the South Baptists voted overwhelmingly to prohibit women from being pastors and banned any churches that disagree. How did an issue that even John Piper argued was not essential in 1991 become grounds for excommunication in 2023? Then, a new documentary by author and pastor, Rasool Berry, introduces the history and meaning of Juneteenth. While some MAGA conservatives are condemning the holiday as “woke,” Berry says it actually has deep connections to Christian theology and the church. Plus, Christian is searching for a castle in Belgium.

I enjoy your comments, celeste, and agree with much of what said. There is a lot we could learn from you and others who identify as both LGBTQ and Christians who love the bible and strive to live their lives as a reflection of its teachings. There have been many other similar thoughts written by other LGBTQ commenters on here over the past few months. I'd love to hear the Holy post address them directly at some point.
Good conversation this week!
AI Sermons
I liked your take on AI! Human pastors can actually care for a congregation in a way that an AI bot never will. Perhaps the fact that an AI bot can produce a real-ish sounding sermon tells us more about how formulaic some sermons have gotten (opening, three points, gospel message, closing), rather than just being a pastor trying to encourage and teach people in ways that are relevant and necessary that Sunday.
I wouldn't have minded someone bringing up "the rocks will cry out." (Luke 19:40) This is especially funny since the primary material in computer chips is silicon, which is the second most plentiful element in the earth's crust, i.e., rocks. Probably…
