402 Is the COVID-19 Pandemic Divine Judgment?

The crazy Christian uncles are out in force declaring that the pandemic is God’s judgment on America for our sin and secularism. Are they right? Skye and Christian talk about it in a new edition of “Christian Asks....” Some theologians are arguing the opposite by declaring “God is not in control” of the current crisis. What?! The podcast crew also discusses conservative churches defying the government’s social distancing orders, and why are some Christians valuing the economy more than lives? Plus, scientists say farts can spread the virus, but there’s a solution. And Phil’s ukulele returns!

Hi Phil,

I went back into your archives and listened to episode 128, the interview with Dr. Gary Burge about Israel and Palestine. I appreciate hearing this different perspective and do actually agree with a few points talked about. I think when people talk about American Christians siding with Israel, one may automatically say it's because we think the Temple needs to be rebuilt etc however I don't think that at all. Maybe Jesus is coming back through Jerusalem's gates (I don't know), but it's not dependent on if the temple is rebuilt. I support Israel because the Jewish people are a large part of my faith's history. I am saddened that Israel has become so secular and pray fo…

Hi Angel - Yes, that's a good summation of the Israeli perspective. (Or, rather, the perspective of some Israelis.) For another perspective, you could try Burge's book, "Whose Land? Whose Promise?" I'm not picking one side or the other, simply saying there is more than one side.

The problems with the situation with Israel and Palestine ,

Is that people forget 2 things.

The first is that Israel is behaving exactly how every other country before it behaved. Out do you think the USA got to be so big, how do you think the British empire spanned the globe? (Pretty much all of Europe)They did exactly what Israel is doing now except Israel is probably doing it more humanely than how we did it. So isn’t it hypocritical of pretty much every country to call out Israel for their actions.

Some Palestinians also want one state, but instead of a unified country

They want to kill all the Jews.

So how diez Israel respond to…

Greatly admire and respect you guys, I often listen twice to try and absorb. My position and understanding of many cultural and political issues have been rounded out and clarified. Thank you for your consistent effort to tell the plain biblical truth. Christian commented finding new guests...about trying to find Jen Hatmaker. Could you have on Alisa Childers first!? https://www.alisachilders.com/blog/max-lucados-endorsement-of-jen-hatmaker-what-it-means-and-why-it-matters?fbclid=IwAR2bOvHQRuf1Ays9DO3KzMdboOC4mZy4Q0zdh2QEY64AgY-Y6cnx9nTzRTU

As a Christian who is still attending church in the face of all this, it's not about my American right of a peaceful assembly under the first amendment. It's not about a disregard for my neighbor. It's about obeying the commandment of the Word. Hebrews 10:25 — "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is…" It's about publicly confessing Christ. Matthew 10:33 — "But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven." It's about being courageous. Proverbs 22:13 & 26:13 — "The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets." It's about fearing God before anything else. Matthew…
